Our speed test revealed that Panerai has done a fantastic job of finely adjusting the movement. Although it gained eight minutes on the wrist, its normal gain on the timing machine was a mere 3.7 seconds. The greatest deviation among the various places (five seconds) is very respectable, too. The amplitude remained high in all positions. For a watch using a manufacture movement, the cost is fair, just slightly more expensive than the previous models that contained ETA movements. Few watches with in-house motions in this price range offer a similar range of functions. There are reasons why people wear and love their watches. Maybe their view has some emotional connection to a event in their past, maybe it was a gift, and if you are like us (watch nerds) you simply love having a helpful mechanical toy on your wrist that also has style. While I usually readily comprehend my fellow watch enthusiasts, I will be the first to admit that originally I didn’t know precisely the subgroup of watch nerds that are very frankly fanatics of the Officine Panerai brand, otherwise called the “Paneristis”.If you aren’t familiar with this particular strain of watch lover, only spend a few minutes perusing the Paneristi forum and that I pretty much guarantee you will leave the website astonished, if not confused, by the real enthusiastic and regular articles from Paneristis all over the world. They discuss every version, post movies, speculate on new models, provide advice to newbies, and even frequently throw parties (all over the world) where fellow Paneristis come for a fantastic time, make friends, and of course show off their cherished Panerai models.

  • This offers the watch greater depth, keeps it loyal to its historic predecessors, and also explains the open, “stencil” design of the digits 6 and 9. This sort of architecture ensures that the numerals and indices glow uncommonly bright, making this watch quite legible in the dark. The hour hand for the next time zone is coated with luminous material, as are the small seconds hand and its four accompanying indices. The timing is also easy to read in daylight, although the absence of a moments circle on the dial’s periphery means it cannot always be read just as you may want. The power-reserve screen on the motion side utilizes a disk that rotates beneath a window its colour changes from black to reddish shortly before the energy is exhausted.Careful scrutiny uncovered a couple of specks of dust onto the hands, which have been stamped from rather narrow inventory, which causes them to bend toward the polished eyelet at the center of the dial. There’s also an obvious break in the lace finishing over the lugs, which accept the crosspiece that holds the strap. In all other respects, however, the case is excellently crafted. Additionally, it scores points for its quick-change system for the strap lugs. A distinctive instrument, delivered together with the watch, may be used to press a button on the bottom of each drag, which makes it effortless to push out the crosspiece, remove the leather strap and then install the alternate rubber one which is also included. The wide, pre-mounted, machine-stitched crocodile-skin strap with cut edges is quite well-made, as is the pronged buckle, which brings to mind an old-fashioned jar opener. Some sharp borders become evident once you set it under a loupe, but you do not notice them once the watch is fastened for your wrist.

While using the PAM 321 for snorkeling or diving is making use of the watch at the context of its historic roots, the ability to easily, quickly, and just change straps means that I can alter the character of my PAM 321 within an instant to match my outfit or the current situation. The provided alligator strap is great for office work while the rubber functions nicely for the sea or the pool… however, the beauty of possessing Panerai watches is acquiring third party straps while at precisely the exact same time completely changing your watch. There are literally 1000’s of aftermarket belts readily available for all Panerai models. They are sold from all around the world, some beginning as low as a few dollars and some reaching into the $1K range. The materials vary from calf leather (new or distressed and everything in between) into alligator and crocodile, and also to more exotic leathers such as stingray, sharks, reptiles, ostrich, and many more. The available colours are multitudinous and the comfort level will vary with the material and construction. For mine, I managed to get a pair of distressed calf leather Big Belt straps from TimeRepublic vendor on eBay for about $60 each (with shipping) and using a pre-V (pre-Vendome) buckle included. And naturally, this isn’t mentioning official Panerai straps and straps which you could also buy. In the Panerai store in Bal Harbour, FL, for more cash, I managed to add the legendary assolutamente installation strap to my collection as well as a rare brushed stainless steel bracelet. As mentioned, each strap simply completely changes the opinion like I had bought a new watch. This is also from remarks of family and friends during my vacation where I used the opinion every day. With the stainless steel bracelet, I essentially altered my PAM 321 into a PAM 347 because the bracelet is the only difference between the two versions.
